Batman Descends - Motion Illustration

What if your favorite poster or comic book cover came to life? My latest experiment takes the iconic figure Batman and literally makes him leap from the page. I continue to be intrigued by this idea that staples I love from the traditional print world like posters or comic book covers can have two lives. One life as a two-dimensional piece of art that you can physically touch and feel and another in the digital realm of mobile devices and social media. The opportunities provided by tools and the workflows found in Adobe Fresco for iPad, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe After Effects allowed me to bring a creation like this to life by taking it from a digital sketch, to vector art, and finally to rigging and motion graphics.

The “Dream Garage” series is inspired in large part by a love of all things automotive and a reaction to the blending of traditional illustration and poster design with motion. Originally conceived as a print poster series highlighting a few of my “dream” cars, I ended up merging my traditional illustration workflow with a custom motion design pipeline. Leveraging vector artwork from Adobe Illustrator and texture created in Adobe Photoshop, I imported the original artwork file into Adobe After Effects and worked on bringing each car to life. The goal being to end up with not only a physical piece of printed artwork, but also a digital artifact infused with motion for a different type of experience online and on social channels.
